Showcase SHOWCASE: June 8-15, 2025

beat I made a looong time ago
don't rly know if its good or complete trash
To be honest, it's not great, that synth is all over the place seems very random and doesnt follow any pattern that you could get into. The part where the synth falls is pretty cool though. I can't see how anybody could rap to it. If you made the synth pattern a lot more coherent and not so random it would be a lot better IMO. Personally I'd replace that synth for something else, maybe keeping the part where it falls for the end of an 8 bar loop or even 16 before a hook comes in, reminds me of evil clowns. The drums are okay.

Yeah kinda what I expected.
This was one of the first beats I ever made, didn't expect it to be good. I probably should take some time this week to fix it up or something. Thanks for the feedback!

Don't worry bro, we all had to start somewhere. My first beats sounded like shit. It comes with experience, the more you do it the better you will get. Posting for honest feedback can fast track that learning and progress.

The beat lives up to it's name for sure. I kinda like the synth patch you used, but as mentioned, there's no real theme here. It sounds more like a collection of noodles rather than a coherent beat. I'm sure there's an idea somewhere in there, but it needs to be distilled and refined. Also the drums near inaudible. Balance and focus should be where you put your energies moving forward.

@PhxAzTracmaster

I really like the opening. The way the piano and vocals breathe gives the listener something to anticipate. The squelchy synth sound isn't quite my flavour. In fact, it feels like an after thought - even mix wise. The piano and vocals are the highlight, I think with them being spaced out nicely, the drums could've carried some more energy rather than matching the flow of the piano. Maybe it's just my easy coast sensibilities, but a break beat would sound dope under the melodic pieces...or dare I say trap stye hats?

@PhxAzTracmaster I really like the bass and the slide on it, the kick hits nicely. Personally Id scrap the synth, but thats just me, I think it takes away from the beat rather than add to it, the piano sounds dope, vox stabs are dope. Its just that synth IMO. Maybe switch it up for a proper west coast sustained synth. Just my 2 cents

I like this short punchy bass. That particular bass tone always gives me trouble - which sucks, because it's a sound I really like but can never write well around it. There's an organ+string combo accent on certain down beats I almost missed...but certainly felt, as it added to the bounce nicely. Drum wise, I think these are your most inspired drums in a while - or I just like stuttered snares. Again, sound selection is great. I probably would've completely overdone the brass and have them poke out like an @Armani boner at an all boys high school graduation. What's cool is I can hear several different NYC legends going in on this. It's got some old school flavour with more modern sensibilities. Dope!

Dun:
At first when the little horn stabs I was thinking Dre - What's the Difference. Then the mallets came in and I immediately felt like I was playing Goldeneye on my N64. The melody in the mallets is really cool and could lend themselves nicely to a more robust arrangement with other elements as harmonies or doubling. That laser/zap type of sound that mirrors the shaker isn't quite my style though.

I'm digging this. It has a combination of K's rugged and raw sound with 2Gs instrumentation. The drum fills do a lot to keep the energy flowing into the next phrase. I think the snare drum in most hip-hop has been unjustly relegated to just being on the 2 and 4 so it's dope hearing it add to the groove here.

Overall, I think your styles compliment well. Would be dope to hear a 5 track EP/Beat Tape from you both!
