See a lot of people saying it "sounds better" which leaves me wondering if that means thw previous versions have poor sound quality.

People are wrong all DAW’s sound the same other than Harrison mix bus. Try the null test for yourself and you will see.
have you used mixbus? Ive seen mixed reviews for it, thats another daw Ive never used.
Im very happy with FL Studio for now, but when Im back in the studio recording I might try something different

I have used it a little, it's pretty slick. The goal of it is to recreate the sound of their hardware mixes on purpose so it is NOT neutral at all but it does sound good. For the most part I can do all that with plugins in Logic or Reason though. Especially if you have the Slate stuff.
