First off, if anybody who thinks they're true hip hop and all that bullshit and hasn't seen style wars is missing something. True essential for all hip hop lovers. I just picked up the dvd and it has some very cool features like interviews with graph artist today and very cool interative art gallery's. It's a must have.

There is no one in the world that is true hip hop....there is no one that is hip hop hip hop is nothing someone can be and a dvd doesn't make anyone more in tune to the culture

look, im just saying that there is a lot of people who think they know so much hip hop and they're so into the culture but actualy they dont know anything about it. So this video is a essential for anybody who wants to know about the origins of graph and how it has evolved and also a little history about breakin.

It's basicaly an in-depth documentary on graph in the early eighties. The beginings of graph and how it has evolved. it also has interviews and clips of the early days of rock steady and how crazy legs began breaking. It's a must have.

LOL... The commercialism that Hip Hop has become is what is so disappointing to me. While its all good that people are making a living at doing what they love, how many are actually doing it because they love it? I've been in this game for 20+ years now, haven't made a dime doing it, but I keep on doing it because I love it. But the fact is commercialism has brought Hip Hop into the homes of every wanna be rapper/DJ/producer/etc. That is not to say that some of them are truly talented and deserve everything they get, but how many of you here can sit down with me and converse on the first time you saw Style Wars on TV with that opening scene of that train coming down the rail, sparks flying, lights glaring, and that truly inspiring music that accompanies it. How many can talk about diggin deep and doing research to get a copy of Graffitti Rock that your homeboy brought down from NY when it first aired? Or watching Lee descend that rope in front of his 'Graffitti 1999' in the opening sequence for 'Wild Style'.

I'm not trying to diss anyone here by saying that, but before anyone here claims to be 'true hip hop' or "old school', think about how far back your oldest memory goes, and if it doesn't go past the release date of Rob Base's 'It Takes Two' then don't even try to speak on the matter.

Peace.

Yo, Metrosoul... I may just have to pick that DVD up to check out the new stuff on it, but I already got an original first print copy VHS. :D

Oh I'm sorry...I didn't start to listen to Hip-hop until I was 10...back in 88...I've been down since then...started with graffitti, then dj'ing, then producing...but I just guess that I'm not true Hip-Hop and know nothing about it...

Just because your an old fucker doesn't make you more true than somone who started out 5 years ago...as long as they've been down since then...but of course they can't call themselves old school...we can agree on that.

Nice 'tude, Copenhagen. Maybe you should read the part again where I said "I'm not trying to diss anyone here by saying that..."

And I dont recall calling myself more true than anyone else either. Wait a sec... let me go back and read my post again.... yup, nothing there about me being any more true than anyone else.

And I also don't recall intentionally insulting anyone either. Aren't you a mod here? Shouldn't you be more of an example to the rest of us instead of resorting to name calling? Chill kid.

I was just trying to make a point about how some people swear up and down that they this and that without even knowing the real deal, that's all.

And you was 10, just getting into it in 88? Damn... I think I was on my 32nd piece by then. Funny how time flies, eh? Now I'm just chillin. cause us 'old fuckers' gotta take it easy. :D

Peace

You might say that you're not trying to diss anyone here but what does that matter if you do.
Also, you might not directly say you're more true than anybody else on this site but by saying that people shouldn't speak on the matter unless they have experienced this and that you're certainly implying it.
Sure, I nuderstand that a lot of people think they're hiphop this and hiphop that and then don't know anything and haven't bothered to involve themselves in the culture...past, present and dare I say future.
And yes I'm a moderator but that doesn't mean I don't have an opinion and can't get bitchy on a bad day.
I am just very, very tired of people saying that you gotta be this and that and have experienced this and that before your true or real or whatever...and that's how you sounded to me.
I've been into Hip-Hop since I developed a taste for my own musical genre and can't do anything about not being born before and I have certainly done my best to try and know the culture. So for anybody to imply that I shouldn't speak on a matter pisses me off. Period.
Now I have no beef...I just needed to point that out.

Well, I dont see where you found that I said you shouldn't speak on anything. If you didn't feel that what Isaid was meant for you then why did you reply? Usually when I speak on matters such as this the only replies I receive are from those they affect most, which are usually the ones I'm talking about in the first place. But since that ain't you, I guess we cool then, aiight? :D Now go make some beats. :D :D

Again, I didn't start with HipHop until 88...you refer to stuff like Wild Style, Graffitti Rock etc...stuff from the early 80's...and, as I understood you, say that if you weren't down with HipHop before the release date of Rob Base - 'It takes two'...which is exactly from 88 as far as I remember...then you shouldn't speak on the matter...that was what you wrote...well then it WAS aimed at me and that offends me.
Thereby I think you just contradicted yourself.

I also feel you contradict yourself by saying that if I didn't feel it was meant for me why did I reply. So it was meant at somebody I can understand...and it didn't seem postive towards those it was meant...so are you sure you weren't trying to diss anybody. I only see one reason to say you're not dissing anybody and that's because in fact your are.

Anyway, I don't let this get in the way of things...so yeah we're still cool.
