i just wanna know what is the best level to set my recording volume at on windows xp. Is it better to go max or min.?

if you go to max you risk the signal clipping resulting in digital distortion which sounds really ugly. I would set it low and boost it when you see the need. You can also raise the gain of a low recording in your sequencer program
