who on here uses an AKAI MPD16?

if so, post in here and we'll try and learn from each others experiences and get the most out of this cool production tool...

holla!!

:D

here's some more info about the MPD16 for anyone that's interested;

from AKIA's website

MPD16 USB PAD CONTROLLER

Everyone knows that pads are by far the best way to play and program drum and percussion tracks in any musical genre.

And everyone also knows that the pads used on the MPC series of sampling drum machines/sequencers are amongst the best (if the not the best) in the business for laying down slamming rhythm tracks. However, you may be happy with your sequencing package and your sampler and so may not want to buy into the MPC. Enter the MPD16.....

The MPD16 is a dedicated pad controller that can be used with any sampler/sound module and/or sequencer to record and play drum and percussion patterns with the expressionand feel that only pads can offer

Equipped with 16 totally assignable MPC pads switchable across two banks (thereby giving you effectively 32 pads) plus a performance slider for hi-hat and other sample switching, the MPD16 is the definitive laptop rhythm controller.

The MPD16 has (of course) MIDI out so that it can be used with any sampler or sound module. Each pad can be set to output MIDI notes of your choosing with a variable velocity range and these can all be set conveniently via your Mac or PC.

However, the MPD16 is also equipped with USB. Not only can it derive its power supply from that interface when used with Akai Professional's USB equipped Z4 or Z8, it can also transform these rack mount samplers into rhythm powerhouses.

The MPD16 also inherits some of the MPC series' features such as the FULL LEVEL and 16 LEVELS functions available on dedicated switches.

I use it with FL and with Reason

FLStudio 5 has a new feature called FPC that is dope for using with the MPD. peep;

FPC

plugins_FPC_main.gif

FPC (FL Pad Controller) is a software plugin similar to the hardware Akai MPC unit, coded & optimized for the FL Studio platform.

FPC is a self-contained drum machine which makes it easy to create, edit and swap drumkits on the fly to tune the sound of the drumloops in your project. FPC supports 16 multi-layered patches per drumkit bank.

The interface is separated into three parts you can display using the tabs on top of the window. In the first tab you can see the main pad properties section which shows/sets the properties of the currently selected pad (explained below).

^^dumbest shit ive ever seen.

i cant believe they make that shit.

What are you thinking? Who wouldn't want to add MPC pads to a computer setup. I can't afford an MPC right now so it will have to do. I'm gonna buy one as soon as their available again. Too bad they're not silver, though.

I never knew until know that they used an MPD in that Jay-Z/Linkin Park music video

That was the first time I ever saw the MPD in action and I was impressed.

why wouldnt you just get the REAL MPD pads? i cant even imagine a reason why they would make a software version of the mpd.

i just think that some people go overboard with the software. im a hardware guy so i must be biased.

nah cuz...

the "FPD" software you're referng to is basically just a plugin to make the MPD16 pads interact really well with FLStudio (just lllke the software built into the MPC or similar hardware)

peep the video for a brief introduction into the FLStudio/FPC/MPD combination

Hey man, yeah that would be me.

I was interested in the pads awhile ago, the price I had emailed to me was around $500...Steep.

Not really on the top of the list at the moment anyways, $300 looks about right for this though.

Peace.

only you can make your beats better but the MPD can help you to;

- make beats faster (particularly drum tracks)
- give your beats a more "human" feel (particularly the drums)
- make the beat making process more fun for you

it's basically the pads from an MPC. I'm not sure how familiar you are with MPCs but peep this video for an idea of what type of stuff you can do with pads.
