A General Introduction
The do-it-yourself (DIY) ethos is alive and well at IllMuzik.com As a member of this site, I have been cynical many times in my posts to the thought of individuals wishing to partake in owning their own record companies. This comes from experiences with so-called...
Got a call from a friend of mine about a guy who was the smartest dude in our class in high school. Turned out he went to NYU and started working as a lawyer afterwards.
Heard he fell off. Don't know if it was drugs or the dude had a breakdown or burned out. He was a nice cat and REALLY...
Damn-- and I still feel guilty for borrowing and never giving back one of my friend's Wu-Tang CD's back in 1994. This shit's on a whole 'nother level.

Coffee, Red Bull, Mountain Dew, Monster... and then that "other stuff".
Any of y'all divulge in some serious stimulants to stay up through a long session?
I drank approximately 8 Red Bulls in the span of a couple hours. Still was tired.
Pretty dope for making ghetto-masters. It softened up some prelim mixes in post. Good stuff. Wouldn't base my entire mix/master on it though. Good spectrum analyzer.
I'm generally very open to any kind of music and pride myself on having a good ear for things that may potentially have commercial success.
Lately, as I've been getting older - I find that touch starting to fade.
For example, where I was supposedly looking for the avant-garde and truly...
Dear all,
I stumbled across a wonderful resource that can be used as a reference for your beats and hit-making.
For those not aware of Cheiron Studios in Sweden, it is essentially a "hit factory" where seasoned songwriters are/were apprenticed into learning production essentials among...
Pictures are worth a thousand words. I don't think I could get any recording done here - too many distractions. Like living in a casino.

If you read my frustrations with mastering in Illmuzik's lab section... this is some funny stuff on the same subject. In case you didn't know - Metallica's new album "Death Magnetic" was mastered so loud that you can audibly hear clipping on the new CD. The album was produced by Rick Rubin and...
I made two mixes. One with a ton of dynamics. One with heavily compressed tracks.
We all liked the dynamic one. But guess which one we ended up using?
The one I mixed to extreme compression.
Why?
Because that's we thought would "sound better" at a promo meeting.
Loudness wars...
Okay. We all know that when you arrange the song sequence for an album there's a simple BS formula that most label execs or producers know. It kind of goes like this:
First song: upbeat/uptempo
Second song: kind of the same upbeat song
Third song: a little slower... maybe the ballad or...
I figured I'd divulge a little bit.
Woke up early, went to the studio. On the way there I downed some coffee and food.
Got in and started away at mixing.
I was doing a mix where the AE had ghetto-"mastered" the track with a soft-comp on the entire song with some ghetto-filtering on...
Jon Stewart was ruthless and the video of Cramer talking about manipulating the stock market is nuts! Probably destroyed this guy's career like the Jon Stewart and the CNN Crossfire incident in '04.
JON STEWART VS. JIM CRAMER (CNBC)
Pt. 1
Pt. 2
Pt. 3

Can someone from a country other than the USA tell me how healthcare works in your country?
Like:
Do you have to wait on a long list for service? Do you think it works properly? Can you pick your doctor?
I just want to know. We have a debate on healthcare in the US, and I'm just...
I know they're rock. There are UK or European heads here.
Anybody alive while they were in their prime?
How big were they in the UK?
We're having a debate about this. Basically, the argument is that the US hasn't produced a recent stadium act comparable to Oasis' popularity in the...
We love our own Smash Bros. I was checking up on their work and forgot the URL.
Then I stumbled across these cats:

Is there going to be a fight by the East River to settle this "naming-rights-thing" once and for all?
Place all bets with me. I'll...
