anyone knows a real soft synth for acoustic instruments?

You're quite wrong. RAM WILL help apps load faster by reducing the a OS's use of it's page file. The page file is virtual memory, when your PC runs out of physical RAM, the OS resorts to using a file stored on your hard drive as RAM. Even if your PC is equipped with screaming fast hard drives...

anyone knows a real soft synth for acoustic instruments?

Hate to be the one to break this to you, but Korg Legacy Digital (M1 and Wavestation) DOES use samples. The only acoustic sounds you're gonna get out of Reason are sampled sounds. What you need are physical modeling plugins. They use complex algorithms to recreate sounds instead of samples...

thinking about going back to pc after many years of mac usage

I know it's not '98 anymore. This is my current motherboard: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/K7_Master266.htm MSI K7 Master-S. That's an Ultra 160SCSI on there. I have a pair of 18GB Fujitsu U160 drives on it (10K RPM, but that's all I could find). It's old as shit, but still...

thinking about going back to pc after many years of mac usage

wow... I mean... f_ckin WOW!!! Y'all must not have been around for too long. You can comfortably fly 24 tracks of audio off of a 5400RPM drive as long as the interface you're using is fast enough. To give you an example, my first serious DAW machine was a Pentium 233MMX machine with 128MB...

Industry Standard... But For How Long?

You have a Digi001, don't you? I feel ya tho. I have an AMIII card and a copy of PTLE 5.01 for Win98SE, PTLE 6.1, AND 6.8 for my Audiophile 192. The only reason I use PT is to send out sessions. I'm far more productive in Cubase/FL 6 than ProTools.

    micro korg bass sounds

If you're dead set on having a hardware piece, look into the Waldorf Pulse or Microwave/Microwave XT, Peavey Spectrum Bass II and/or Spectrum Synth, Novation SuperBassStation, Roland Juno 106, Sequential Multi-Trak, or Yamaha TX81Z. You WILL need to learn to program basses. Here's a few...

    micro korg bass sounds

Track down the Tritium Bass VST plugin. makes some good basses, especially when you pair it with the Prosoniq Northpole filter. BTW, both plugins are freebies.

    Pro tools and PC soundcard

PT Free works with any audiocard. The catch is that it's based on 5.x, only works under Win98SE/WinME and, if memory serves me, only supports 8 audio tracks. To get Pro Tools working, you need the hardware it supports. There's no real way around it.

    ASIO4ALL-Now vista ready(beta)

I still don't get ASIO4All's purpose... Simply Installing Cubase gives you DX ASIO, which I've used on an old ISA SB Vibra16. Why do we need yet another ASIO solution?

    Why Sample From Records

that's how it happens, but you don't convert it to a lossy format like mp3, you want wav or aiff.

    Why Sample From Records

if you have no intention of DJ'ing, just get a decent direct drive turntable. You could get one of these: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Stanton-T.60X-DirectDrive-Turntable-?sku=804017 and a little mixer or a phono preamp and you're good to go.

    Why Sample From Records

Once you hear the difference between vinyl and CD, you'll understand. I've always been aware of a difference, and have heard the difference in the past, but nothing like when I went to sample a Sergio Mendes track from CD. I own the original recording on vinyl, but still sampled from a "greatest...

Is my PC strong enough for production??

if you know what you're doin, you can make some nice ass beats with a fuckin old-ass Celeron and a SB Live on Win98SE. Matter of fact... I'mma do just that. I have a Celeron 466 sittin on a motherboard right now and I can throw it in a case with 256MB or 512MB RAM, 13GB drive, SB Live...

Is my PC strong enough for production??

I love how y'all think you need all this RAM and fast ass processors and shit just to make beats... It all depends on the app(s) you're working with and the OS you're using. With Win2000, I can knock out beats with a P2 or P3 and 256MB RAM if I'm using FL Studio and Cubase VST 5.1 With...

I need a good bass module (vst or DXi)

Novation BassStation and the free Tritium Bass synth (might be hard to find) are the two that I use most often along with the free NorthPole filter.

Sound Card advice needed (My situation's inside)

ok, card recommendation - M-Audio Audiophile 192. They're usually $180USD. I have one and in 16bit/44KHz mode (CD quality) I run it at 5ms latency. Next would be an Audiophile 2496 if you can find one, $100USD for that one. Being that you're in Europe, I'd also recommend trying to track down an...

Question about setting up ''Triple Flatscreen'' help appreciated

Win98 also supports two video cards. Just thought I'd throw that in there 'cause I used to do it. Your second card just has to be a supported card (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/182708/en-us). I had a triple monitor setup under Win98SE at one point using a Matrox G450 dual head card and a 4MB...
