The next competition will be from February 3-4th! See the information below.

Signups

The signups will be on February 3rd at around 8am ET, and end around 8pm ET. Voting will be for 1 day, on February 4th, where the results will be posted the same day.

The Signup page is here (it will open up on the signup day)

Theme: SMOOTH KEYS

You must make a beat that has smooth keys in it, like a Rhodes, for example.

You can use whatever sounds you want, samples, synths, just remember to read the rules for the rest of the restrictions. What the voters will be looking for is originality, creativity, mixing skills and overall dopeness!

Sponsor

This month, the competition will be sponsored by Greg Savage & DIY Music Biz, where the winner will get 1 on 1 consultation from industry insider Greg Savage on music licensing.

Rules

If you're not sure about the rules, read this thread.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or questions about the competition, please post them in here.

Battle Points: 815
2 Questions...

1) Do we have to use keys that have a similar "sound" as a Rhodes, or could we use a "basic" piano and just play a smooth melody/progression?

2) The rules say only that occasional vocal snippets are OK... but, can we submit a beat that uses a 4 bar vocal snippet that is repeated x2 for the hook?

1. It should be keys like a Rhodes but smooth-sounding piano would be ok too.
2. I would say no because snippets have always been looked at as little parts like "check it out y'all" here and there. I don't think anyone has really submitted a 2 minute beat with a hook like that in the past. A 4 bar snippet is a lot.
