Thats the problem right there, u dident read the whole damn thing, if u had read it u would see that his main point is that people need to start taking responablitity for what they say in the entermaiment biz casue they are setting bad examples.

This is a very true statement, cats are saying bullshit these days without realising the consquences.

Not tryin to start beef, but thats the problem with most people and farakan, they jump to conlusions without really listing to what he is saying.

*sigh*

again i aint tryin to start no big debate, but u have to understand when u have 5 year old kids quoating 50 cent , or trina songs. Thats the impression that they are going to carrry with them. I dont care if u speak ur mind or not, but u cant be blind to the consequnces of what happens if you do so.

Most rappers today are hypocrits, they say the love the black communitity etc.. but very few people are really DOING anything about it. Yet they countine to brocast these negative images around the world To the point were we have kids in uganda, UK, etc... calling each other nigger, and doing all the negative things that are being talked about in the song.

Basically life imates art, Kids are impressnable and rappers need to be more responable,

thats all he is saying

I dont see how u can say thats bullshit

Yo Class I got your back. And I'm not afraid to start some beef over something that I truely believe in.

The majority of people on earth are followers and imitators. No one can really say they did or do something because they though of it. I didn't get braids in my hair because I thought out of the blue that it would make my appearance cooler. I had to see a bunch of niggas like Ludacris rock the style before I aquired the style myself. The same goes for society as a whole. There is always the exception when someone is able to do something totally oringinal, but how do we know if they just didn't bite someone from somewhere else?

Point is....if we continue to glorify sex, drugs, and violence, then thats all are society will be about. Which it is for the most part. I want to fuck ho's, smoke kind, and smack folls up side the head all day. But its wrong. And I battle myself everyday cuz deep down I know its not the way to happiness.

Just think if rappers talked about the importance of reading, being kind to people, paying attention to the bullshit laws our government passes in the middle of the night while we're sleeping. I gaurantee your asses that would have a much needed positive affect on the youth. Thats why I don't rap because I can only speak from the heart and the sex, drugs and violence is not in my heart. Eventhough I partake in those activies (mostly sex and smoking weed). But thats because I give in to temptation. When I do decide to write I'm gonna be on some revolutionary change the world shit. Right now I'm just trying to figure out a way to bring that content in a cool way. And I will cuz I'm a cool cat. The time is now.
"The society says it wants the rappers to clean up their lyrics, but the society does not want to clean itself up." This is so true. We have all the power when you really think about it. Not these corporate conglomarates. They need us. We don't need them. We should be telling them what the fuck we want. Not the other way around.

Farrahkan knows what the fuck is up.

It does not take a rocket scientist to know that rappers are a disgrace. It's been that way for a very long time. Farkikong isn't the originator of this concept, people have been saying this for years, I make my own music because of this so don't treat the idea like Farkikong made it up like he's some type of genius, rappers need to do this not because he said so. I also believe that the distaste people have for this is not because of the idea, but the man advocating it. It's like he's using it as a promotion tool just like he used Ali (heavy weight champ of the world), whats the next big thing? Rappers. I thinking everybody knows his ultimate goal is to be the influence behind the scenes and use it as a means of control, a puppet master for short. Ask Malcom about the shadyness, oh you can't, he's dead, but anyway I'll never trust him, to each his own.

If it's advocating the Kong, can't get ya back!
To each his own.

I don't think rap is the source of the problems in the black community. There were tons of murders and drug deals going on in the early 80's and earlier, long before gangsta rap had emerged. I doubt that content helps the problem either, but I don't think it's right to place the blame and the responsibility on these artists. Why should people look to rappers as political or philisophical leaders? That's not what they are, and they shouldn't receive the blame or the credit for those issues.

"Basically life imates art, Kids are impressnable and rappers need to be more responable" class

"if we continue to glorify sex, drugs, and violence, then thats all are society will be about." the konductor

I gotta agree with the general idea of what Farrakan was saying, and evenmoreso with you guys. Life really does usually end up imitating art. And society does become what is popularized. Like ancient Greece, SO many people became philosophers and laid down the foundation for knowledge, which is still studied and used to this day in all types of courses. Philosophy and thinking was popular. In the Renaissance those classical thinking ideas resurfaced. Now I respect the old school hip hop alot more than this gangsta crap that is all over the radio and would love to see a renaissance for hip hop, but it isn't gonna happen.

Hip hop is going to either evolve into something new or stay the same. Basically, currently hip hop is pop music. It's all about entertainment, but those "artists" need to take responsibility. Will they? No, cause what they're doing makes em money. So its up to US as consumers to support artists who either spit intellectual art, or artists that reflect life. Meaning they analyze life and express it through art. Think why 2Pac was big. He's the only hip hop artist I will always stand up. And this is even though he rapped about a lot of negative stuff, in for example "Me Against the World. The difference is that he analyzes his life, the life of others, or writes actual SONGS about those topics. Most rappers nowadays, not all, just rap about nothing. They can't even hold a topic for 1 freckin verse. If they do it's just about money, sex, drugs, and violence, and most of it is senseless. That is one reason they can't hold down a verse and make logical connections. I think its ok to rap about these topics as long as it makes some sense. Like 2pac you can see why he's violent cause he explains it in his raps.

So as the ancient Greeks did b4, we will alter our values through what is popular with our culture.
Like the Konducter basically said "PEOPLE POWER." Its up to us to carve out and shape society, especialy for the next generation. Maybe ya'll don't think about it cause you dont' have kids, but when I look at my niece I damn sure don't want her watching Britany Spears dancing half naked in her videos or acting "gangsta." And you know kids are impressionable. If you don't think so let em watch porn, violent rated R horror, and listen to gansta music all day long. We don't need restrictions right??? Even as an adult I imitate stuff cause it is a way of learning. Like I imitate another guitar players style to eventually form my own playing style. Imagine if all I was raised on was Hardcore metal and watching Mike Tyson fights. I'd be making KILLER music. Same thing applies to hip hop. If they're all violent, senseless, selfish cats rhyming than what type of people will our kids become?

There's alot of fucked up shit out there.
Gangster rap can be as frowned upon as animal porn, if we as consumers choose what to pay for. It's the kids that choose what they should listened to, and if we want to change the childrens views on what's "good", the society has to change.

"if we continue to glorify sex, drugs, and violence, then thats all are society will be about."
i think that's a load of crap personally. we have kids that imitates their pop-idols because they have no other rolemodel, and that's because the society has failed them. not rappers corrupting the youth.

i agree to a certain point that kids imitate, but if we(society) haven't put up a boundary to what's right or wrong, so that the kids know what's okay to imitate and what's not, it's our fault if the kids fuck up, not rappers fault. it's easier to point the finger at someone else rather than change yourself.

Exactly. see, they have positive messages in their music. That doesnt sell,so kids dont get to see or hear that on the radio, MTV, BET, etc.

Class, I agree with what ya sayin 110%!!!! As an artist I watch what I say but at the same time stay true to "MY" art as an emcee. I express my beliefs in some songs and attck the industry and the same type of rappers Farakahn talks about. Problems in Ghettos and not just black communities. (Sayin Ghetto as in the true sense of the word: Predominantly one race of people in a Community) have been goin on forever. But, alot stems from Druga and violence. These cats on the radio are doing nuthing but promotin the sellin of drugs, and bein a "Thug" and packin heat,,yada, yada, yada. these young kids see this and emmulate this behavior. What these kids don't see is that many of these cats move to gated communities and forget where they come from. Do not donate any money to there fromer communities and that sort of thing. For instance, I hate Nelly's music, but the man supports his former hood with charity programs. This is what we sayin,,,

also, someone please dont even mention about Game and 50 recently puttin up some cash durin that press conference. That was just for the Media.

thats the point, he was a thug ("thats just the way it is"), but he always had something constructive to say.

well this whole farrakan speech, i thought it was pretty plain. some weird argumentation to catch those rappers ears :). why i posted this is, coz i just imagined how these cats been sitting there, staring at him bored to death "fuckin preacher, let me go home!" as if it was detention at school.

anyway, nothing wrong about this farrakan (everyone might be a heretic for someone else phill).

its all true, i dont want my little brother to show me his middlefinger cos he has seen it on tv and i dont want my daughter to think behaving like a bitch is the way to be, only cos some fucks are makin money of it.
well, i know wack hiphop isn't societies main disease, but it could help to fight it, instead of pushing those ignorant stereotypes.
