I think it was the overly tight screws making it sensitive. Haven't yet tried it.
As far as the pads go, I've taken out the MPD's packaging and it boasts "thick fat" "genuine MPC pads". Whether that's true or not, all the replacement sets of pads for MPCs also fit this thing.

@Drago Zetić - thanks for the user feedback will definitely gift this to myself for Xmas. Let's just hope it works with Renoise!
