Internet VS. Radio/Broadcast: where's the power?

The power is comppletely with the old school radio stations. They're one of the only reasons that the music industry hasn't completely collapsed in the past few years. They alone have the power to make or break the artist, and it's generally the most significant revenue stream for artists...

    What dictates sampling?

Ya technically sampling is anything that capturues a live instrument and then reproduces it (the only thing that isn't sampling would be synthetic creation of sound, like using fm synthesis etc.). However, sampling as it's used generally means using a part of a released song.

    Finding your own 'style'

I think you have to create your own style, and be aware of what you're doing. I like to use the example of jazz musicians. Jazz musicians, when first learning to play and improvise, choose a few heros that they love, and go on to learn everything about how those heros play, phrase, solo, etc...

How To Automatically Fade Out A Beat

Lol. That's awesome. I've been fading every individual track as well.

The Impact of the Internet On the music Industry

Ya I agree with what's been said. As for the above point, remember the days when you used to know EVERY song on an album? That doesn't happen anymore. Singles are the name of the game, and because you can buy (or dl) your favourite mp3, albums are getting destroyed, not only in sales, but the...

so in english i get to write this essay....

That'll be fun, although you may have wanted to pick artists that have bigger differences in their production styles, as the neptunes and timbaland tend to be more similar than different.

What do u wanna know about FL?

I'm not ayron either, but I think you can export all of the tracks in a song just through the export page. Tell your client to go to the page where he normally exports to mp3. Change the setting to wav, and click on the box that says 'split mixer tracks'. Then when you export all of the...

Rant: Its The World In Which We Live! Whats Your Problem?

I think you have a pretty extreme view of the world. Now your views are your, so I'm not going bother arguing with you, but I still feel like I can make my opinion known. First off, I don't think there's anything wrong with being gay. While it's true you wouldn't have seen that type of thing...

WTH? Is Jay-Z's pockets getting light or what?

I think it's justified. I know he's rich, but that doesn't mean that other people can steal you're shit. If you made a new device that plays mp3, and called it the iPid, you'd have Apple all over your ass. Despite the fact that these clubs operate in different markets, the name is likely...

Contacting Publications for features, interviews etc.

The best advice I ever got when I was trying to do the same for my band was to give the paper (website, tv station, etc.) a reason to want to write the story. No one really cares if you want to get in the paper. They want readers (viewers etc.). So you have to provide them with an angle on...

    Detox: release this year!

I think everyone was saying the same thing about 2001 but that managed to live up to some of the hype.

    Compression/Limiting

A lot of stuff that's posted here is not mastered, and that will definitely affect the way you hear it (espeecially in your car, where you're probably used to hearing mastered CDs). Also, remember that most samples used in hip hop are already compressed. Its a fine line between getting the...

    iTunes and sample clearance advice

I haven't cleared samples, but I have gone through the process of reveicing mechanical licenses for a recording my school did. Basically all cover songs have a mechanical license that you need to get (it's usually free), so that the songwriter gets their royalty. It's a pain in the ass, lots...
