In too deep - I think the samples need to be tamed a bit, they're quite overwhelming (but I do have my speakers up real loud), but I think perhaps the drums could be a bit fatter (might just be my obsession with hefty drums), I think some muddy/boxiness should be took out of the low sample...

    De-Essers with full frequency control?

Smart idea, I'll try that. I'm imagining a de-esser is basically a frequency conscious compressor? Not in the same way as a multiband, but similar?

Production What about beatmakers that dont know basic music theory

Haaa If I continue posting, you gonna see a lot more where that came from, brother!

What makes you ask that? If I was - the world would be a better place, I'd make sure of that.

Production What about beatmakers that dont know basic music theory

I've found learning music theory (even though I'm still basic) has helped majorly. But then I'm playing original melodies etc I dunno how much it'll help with triggering samples in the traditional/basic sense. It'll help with perhaps tuning them or how/when you trigger them. I doubt very much...

    De-Essers with full frequency control?

I learnt this off a top guy, he explained it in more depth/detail than I did. I'm liking the results it has. Gonna prove useful on my pianos. On most things I'll just cut, but on pianos I'm going to find it most useful, and perhaps acoustic guitars. Thanks for the responses. I tried using waves...

    De-Essers with full frequency control?

I'll drop a tip... I'm using a de-esser in an eq-esque fashion. For the sake of clearing 'muddiness' on individual tracks, it works like a tamed EQ in this sense, so you're not cutting lows when they're useful, but cutting them when they aren't. Picked this tip up from some top guy.

Production What about beatmakers that dont know basic music theory

Most contracts have a section like this... "the artist warrants that it is the sole owner of all aspects of the Recordings and that the Recordings are free of any third party intellectual property rights or any other encumbrances. In the event that the Recordings embody any so-called...

If you've ever seen the showcase section, I often got mad love for a lot o' cats sample based tracks. Some o' my favourite producers include cats like Alchemist, Just Blaze. I don't hate sampling. I don't knock the people that do. But I'm saying, everyone has/needs basic music theory...

    De-Essers with full frequency control?

Just wondering what de-essers there are that allow you to set reallly low frequencies rather than just the highs. Appreciated.

I know all about the history, man. I ain't trying to knock sampling... I love it. I just don't do it much any more. If you release a track with uncleared samples, and it starts making moolah, you gonna get raped up the batty-crease, homeboy. Genuinely didn't mean to sound as if I was bashing...

    Sonar/Cubase audiosnap...?!

Well I was originally banging out on Cubase, until it kept crashing on my system, I switched to sonar as a matter of 'whatever works' ... So production wise, Sonar smashes cubasE? Thanks for the response, brother.

    Sonar/Cubase audiosnap...?!

Easy, my ILLBRETHREN. I've been considering a move back (from Sonar) to Cubase, when I get all my equipment, money and shizz all sorted. I just recently tonight, discovered/learnt/applied Sonar's AudioSnap feature, and it worked a fucking treat on some acoustic guitar I recorded in...

Mike Black: I liking this too, has a well cool vibe, similar like I could imagine MOBB on this. Only thing I would say is it sounds a bit one level, the drums, it lacks a little energy, it has groove, but needs more energy. Nice either way! Usual: Has an early mobb deep feel to it. Sounds well...

A basic understanding of thread title theory is essential for making good responses to threads!

Production What about beatmakers that dont know basic music theory

You've memorised chords and scales and know what chords work together. That is 'knowing music theory', it's not knowing it to its full, but it's knowing it. As the thread title says.

Production What about beatmakers that dont know basic music theory

If you're the producer, then you should know how you want the track to sound. What do you tell your session musicians "errrm, yeah, play some cool pianos, narrr mean? Nar nar, that's wrong, more like, different narr mean?" Gotta be speaking the same language. Saves time. Time is...

Help!! Getting that ''sampled sound'' without sampling...

DJ Khalil samples original music. It sounds legit, and sounds dope. And more over, he don't need to get sample clearance. And labels don't really like to have to clear samples. Sometimes will make you clear your own samples, and / or tell you to use a different sound in place. Just look back...
