    MPC Necessary?

um, I have on and there is no noticeable delay. Your problem is that you are probably using standard windows audio drivers for your sound card and not ASIO drivers.

    Do you believe in mentors?

you should always help someone that is not as experienced as you. It helps keep the industry fresh and you never know when those connections will pay off.

    Sonar, VST and a controller

just different actually. VST is much more popular. The old versions of sonar handled DX plugins much better, but sonar 6 handles both about the same. You should be able to control your plugin via midi. It had been awhile since I have done that in sonar, I think you need to assign your midi...

    Artist vs. Engineer

"thats not a good idea recording with fx on" I disagree, engineering is all about making decisions the faster decisions you can make the better. Commit to something. These days its to easy to leave all your effects in the virtual world, keep all your takes and even change your instrument sounds...

    Artist vs. Engineer

I am an engineer/Media producer by trade and find I have to find time to make beats lol. Learning to be a good engineer takes years and is a full time job. When you are working on music focus on that dont worry about anything else. If you are the engineer focus on the client.

    MPC Necessary?

I have on and love it, the only two things I had to do to get it to work how I wanted it was change the note assigment and turn the sensitivity all the way up. They are cheap on ebay right now.

Need help with mics, monitors, and sound card.

ok, You need a preamp to get the mic to the proper voltage so you can use it. It does make a big difference as to the sound quality. The 1010lt is a good card but at this point I would just grab a nice pre amp like the RNP. Also I would look at the Mackie monitors the HR824's are awesome...

    FL replacing Hardware

I actually disagree (my opionion also) I choose software and I can afford hardware. Software is so much more flexable. For example I can load a string library in Logic that is 3+Gigabytes in size, sorry you cant do that on a MPC. I feel that software is also much faster. I do have a MPD drum pad...
