    Keeping my rights

I agree. In my situation, being from Connecticut, the closest major cities are boston and NYC. So i just figure NYC is the best for me. Thanks for the info. My only problem is finding a lawyer that REALLY has the connections and is not just leading me on to get the money.

    Keeping my rights

Because most of the bigger record companies only take demos and such from lawyers they know or have a good relationship with. Thats the only reason i said that.

How do beat makers get signed?

I also agree with classic on this thread. A lot of people are not ready to be prosfessional producer. First many beats on here do not compare to the industry in anyways. Second you have to have other knowledge as far as putting a song together such as working with an artist and having an ear for...

How do beat makers get signed?

I read this book a few years ago. It has some bits of good info but it's more directed toward artists (like bands) not producers(especially not hip hop producers). After reading all that i still didn't have an inderstanding of how to break into the hip hop production industry. So i recommend...

    Computer Sequencer Question

Hell yeah you can do that. You can do any length of bar loops and repeat as many times you want. I personally prefer computer sequencers because of versatility and better visuals when you are working. A lot easier to edit smaller parts too. I definately suggest getting cubase sx or the lower...

    vol. question

if you go to max you risk the signal clipping resulting in digital distortion which sounds really ugly. I would set it low and boost it when you see the need. You can also raise the gain of a low recording in your sequencer program

    Chopping Breakbeats

Cubase SX 2.0 has a great feature for this. Its call the hitpoint feature in the audio editor. It if you import a loop double click it, this will open the audio editor. IF you select all and click the hitpoint icon it will place hitpoints at each wave spike (kicks, snares). then you go to...

    Working wit Artists

I am a producer but I need artists to work with. How do I get in touch with local talent? And how do I market my website better to get to the point where local artists are calling me?

    Professional Mastering

First get the best mix you can in your sequencer program or on your real mixer. Especially eq each channel or instrument properly. Eq on individual tracks is the most important. Mastering should just be "adding flavor, not the whole meal". Once your mix is next to perfect, mix it down to two...

    monitor headphones vs monitor speakers

Obviously you dont read MIX magazine but what I meant was that the pan position won't translate as accurately back to the monitors as you think. But then again I obsess over the detail of a mix.

    Sampling

sampling is dying. If I sample I only sample things that no one would know I sampled. Or i chop up a sample (e.g guitar lead) and rearrange it to make it my own. But I agree, anyone can sample and make a beat, but a true producer will create all his own parts.

    monitor headphones vs monitor speakers

I would recommend you jump back and forth from headphones and monitors. However don't pan in headphones because they give you an inaccurate stereo field perception. Also, headphones eliminate all the room distortion you get such as early reflections and standing waves.
