Would someone like to have a beat remake battle?

Can be any beat just a few conditions: Please pick a beat you're capable of making because I don't want anyone getting discouraged and pulling out. Also obviously not something you've already done either. I will offer up several options of beats I've been thinking of remaking, you offer up...

Looking for song name, song featuring James Brown....

There's a song, I can't remember who it was. I believe it was a group of women. Around 2/3 of the way through the song it goes into a break beat and James Brown lets out a very Wilson Pickett-esque "uhh" sound.

What do you consider a great melody?

Those are two that I consider to be. Notice both employ several techniques like letting notes ring out against choppy stuff, short runs that go back and forth. Like they're both perfectly interesting enough, not too much or too little.

So you think you make beat covers huh? Show us what ya got!! Who makes cover beats?

Here are a couple of my beat covers: This is just a couple bar loop of 'Big Brother' by Kanye West: https://vocaroo.com/1eesiZodnQwE Obviously needs work on mix as well as make the rest of it and putting rest of instruments. I'm kind of mad because I somehow misplaced the drums on the track...

Pretty cool little "fake" scratching setup in FL

Works best with a MIDI controller of some sort that has a knob/slider/rotary input. If not I believe it's still useable you just need to automate the knob that you link parameters to.

Computer saying that my keyboard is in use by anther application..

Anyone had this problem? I can't use my midi keyboard with my DAW's because when I try to use it the DAW's will say my keyboard is in use by another application. Any help appreciated :D

What are some of your biggest pains in the butt at the moment regarding beat making?

A big one for me is that my DAW of choice is Reason, which has limited compatibility at times. In my case Reason doesn't have anything resembling Edison in FL. So in order to sample stuff I have to chop the samples in FL and then export them into Reason. That can be such a pain because I have to...

I need help with FL. Computer is normal like Google, even Reason. For some reason though FL is HUGE

I've looked on Youtube already they said you go into options > general > XYZ When you get into that menu you're supposed to scroll down to where it says "scaling" and then fix my issue in there. The problem is I can't even scroll down. The menu where "scaling" is appears so large that the...

Ableton users I need help Re: Using MIDI loops in Ableton...

I just started using Ableton, that interface isn't exactly "user friendly". I'm pretty proficient in Reason, then less so in FL. So I figured learning Ableton would be a piece of cake but that interface is super drab and not really explanatory. I will learn it eventually but sheesh. Anyways, my...

Here's a nice quick breakdown of a top rap beat

Just shows how much goes into top end stuff: 55 tracks, lots of mixing and layering

Unison stuff? Not gonna lie it's pretty legit IMO...

Started with the MIDI Chord pack, really like it, helps me make much more complex ideas much faster than I would be able to on my own. Based on how much I liked the MIDI Chord pack I decided to get the MIDI Drum Blueprint. My credentials: Made my first full beat around 10 years ago. Have been...

How much db variation from note to note until you begin to get into compression?

What will make you want to use a compressor?

Do you hear songs in other songs that aren't necessarily credited?

A good example of this is the Kanye West song 'Runaway'. There's a string part in the song that to me sounds awfully close to a part in 'Nothing Compares To You' by Sinead O'Connor.

I'm crazy about that new Bruno Mars/Anderson Paak song, this guy does a great breakdown of the piano parts

For my tastes it's far and away the best R&B song to come out in a while.

Anybody here use music to make fun of their friends?

One of the best fringe benefits of being able to make a beat/song. We used to substitute peoples' names into songs. For example the song 'Jesse's Girl' turned into 'Carlos's Mom'. Or when Eminem said "two trailer park girls go round me outside' I switched that to one friends mother and sister's...

Beat remakes are in my opinion the number one greatest practice tool for making beats

I found an old soundcloud page of mine which had one of the remakes I did. It's a great tool for improving your focus and seeing beats through, and you make some pretty awesome instruments for later use. Sadly, I haven't remade enough beats in my time so I'm starting to push for more. Last night...

What's good on some good channels re: Mixing songs?

Man....I used to have such dope videos on mixing songs. Videos I found on Youtube and downloaded of course. These videos were from 10-15 years ago and now I believe most are gone, they were eventually taken down. Computer(s) I had the videos on died too. The videos I had were awesome because...

Do any of you have food restrictions?

Lactose intolerant here. I can't eat dairy. The food I miss more than anything is pizza. I've tried lactose free milk products and while they don't mess my stomach up nearly as bad as actual milk products, they still do bother me. I'd love to eat a nice Chicago style deep dish pizza.

Does anybody pay for drum samples? Do you recommend any libraries?

I was listening to samples and loops from Ghosthack last night on youtube. I wasn't impressed. The drums just sounded like a bunch of techno crap, the vocal loops sounded cheesy, melodic loops sounded pretty generic, and the drum loops sounded like I could make any one of them in 30 minutes or...

    I'm 3ternal...

LOL just introducing myself. Three is my lucky number and 'E.1999 Eternal' is my favorite album (production wise) and the one that really made me contemplate the idea of making beats, hence '3ternal'. I've been learning everything to make beats, and experienced roughly 7-8 years. That however...
