    Yo I run Logic Pro 7 on My Powerbook G4, gig of ram runs almost as well as on my G5 at home. As long as you got the OS X update and enough RAM you can run it on a G4.

    All the mixing advice above is great, what you should also do is tune your drums for every track. Even the drum sounds carry a musical pitch.

    Recycle is really great for chopping up samples and then inporting the file or slice into the sampler. The real need for the REX format is a matter of opinion.
