study j dilla on the welcome to detroit album u will learn alot about swing and making tracks that can breath easily. but the key is to not have averything quantised to rigidly. -

certain equipment influences how u work and thus makes it more or less likely to produce a certain sound. so if u have an sp12 with 10 secs of sample sound those limitations will force u to work in a certain way thus yeilding a certain sound. so u cant rule out equipment and say it aint a... -

Got a new sampler the ESX1
Its a dope machine interms sample manipulation and the overall sound but the downside is real time recordign atin truly realtime. so all notes get quantised so that means there is a danger of ending up with some stiff 9th wonder drums so i gotta be weary of that, but aint no going back now... -

Make beats and a basic mix on my headphones numark hd's £20 then fine tune levels on my yamaha computer speakers £45 shit is good enuff. -

Beats sounding the same
That sounds like what happens when dudes buy a keyboard and keep playing the same 3 finger melody (saying they original) with a different preset sound. In order to flip shit up change the drums u use and the patterns ur program also get some different sound source dont make all ur beats off... -

How long does it take for Production on a Track
i think as u get better ur able to producer better beats in a short space of time, if ur just starting out learning how to make beats u likely wont be making bangers in 10 mins. but after uve been producing for like 10 years and ur used to all ur equipment u become able to trun out high... -
