    Why are 12" singles important

Just got 'em, so I haven't set 'em up yet...still currently have my old Stanton's on there.

    Why are 12" singles important

Cool, I currently use a Shure M44-7 audiophile cartridge for sampling purposes, should I be using a different model for scratching? I can't really afford the Shure White Labels, but I'll save up for 'em if that's what I need, the M44Gs appear to be designed for Scratching & Mixing too...

    Why are 12" singles important

LOL, maybe I should ask this question differently, Scratch DJ Academy in New York has a class called DJ 101, now I don't have the money to spend 6-weeks in New York City taking weekly classes, though I'd love to, so, other than the Q-bert stuff, is there a DVD/Book/Software equivalent to what...

    Why are 12" singles important

BTW, I said basic scratching & juggling, even DJ's in my town that only spin on radio and night clubs do the occasional scratch and juggle a 2-4 bar loop every now & then, and they are far from turntablist. I need and intelligible knowledge of the techniques and terminologies the practically...

    Why are 12" singles important

Yeah, I'm not really trying to learn turntablism, I'd just like to know how to rock a hip-hop crowd from behind the 1's & 2's basic juggling, break beat looping, novice scratches, vocal cuts, beat matching, blending/mash-up, that kinda stuff. I mean I can construct a beat live, and rock a mic...

    Why are 12" singles important

Lol, I have 2 turntables and a mixer, both Stanton, and did exactly what you just said from the ages of 13 to 18, didn't get me any closer to knowing even the basics of DJ-ing. Sorry I'm just not that type of learner, I had the same problems with Guitar and Bass until I actually found tutelage...

    Why are 12" singles important

I think I saw one of those once, but they're pretty Turntablist centered, I'm looking more the party-style DJ-ing mixing (less competitive), and I'd like to know how to cut vocals...something about a beat with vocal cuts on it, lol.

    Why are 12" singles important

So, what about old-school records, like the '70s era, would those 12" have instrumentals, acapellas, or alternate versions of tracks? Because as a producer those things could be valuable tools, from that era. Also since we broached the subject, I would like to develop DJ skills, any good...

    Low End Theory question...

Yeah I mean I've played with filtered samples before, y'know to grab a bass line off of one sample and put it under another, but I always had those phase problems when it was the same sample filetered & non-filtered. So I would just end up replaying the bassline verbatim. Only problem is, I...

    Why are 12" singles important

I'm fairly new to crate digging, but I enjoy it immensely, however my buying habits tend to be mostly LPs from dollar bins and thrift store/pawn shops and also the occasional 45s. But I noticed that most really serious diggers collect 12" singles, so what's the importance of collecting 12"...

    Low End Theory question...

I have an MPC1000 and it seems like every time I try to apply the Low End Theory (where you play the sample regular and then layer the sample with a low pass on it to beef up the bass) I get a bunch of phase cancellation going on, am I doing something wrong here?

    Help, I need better sounds/voices...

Sweetwater.com has a really good repairs department, particularly on items they still sell, and their customer service is impeccable.

    Help, I need better sounds/voices...

Any thoughts on the StudioLogic SL-990pro? I'm looking to upgrade my current MIDI keyboard for a fully-weighted controller and the Akai MPK-88 & Roland A-88 seem a little expensive at the moment. The M-Audio Oxygen 88 is a little better-priced (at $300-$400 less), but is there anything about it...

    Help, I need better sounds/voices...

LOL, I could grab a Kawai K1R or a K1Rii and get my early synth 80's sounds on...but seriously the soft and mellow pads actually do sound good on them and they're like $70-$80. The demo of the K1Rii on VintageSynthExplorer actually sounds really good. The Kawai K5000R sounds pretty amazing, but...

    Help, I need better sounds/voices...

Yeah, I've always loved it, had it since 2004 or 2005 I think, and I've used it for a great many musical activities, plus I wanna grab a MOTU 8pre to slap on it (in case our local ?uestlove wants to come lay some drums on a track), they can be had on eBay for really cheap, next addition past...

    Help, I need better sounds/voices...

As far as Bass sounds go, is the Alesis Nanobass any good? Demo videos sound pretty good, it's pretty cheap on Ebay as well. The Alesis S4 Plus sounds pretty dope off the factory demo video, and it's very inexpensive.

    Help, I need better sounds/voices...

I was thinking the Mackie Onyx Blackjack at first, repair my MOTU 828MKII next, then a Mackie ProFX12 when I can afford it, and a Mackie Onyx 1220i when I can afford that. I checked out the Yamaha TX81Z, seems like the synthy sounds in there are close to some of the stuff I hear in popular...

    Need help with wiring/signal flow...

Can someone please help/explain to me how I should be routing and syncing my signal flow, I have an MPC1000 which is the centerpiece of the studio where everything happens, I also have an E-MU Proteus 2000 sound module, that I would like to control with my Yamaha DGX-500 keyboard...how should I...

Look, the whole buying a new computer for $500 or $600 isn't going to happen until next tax season, I'm living off unemployment checks until the Liberty Tax Service I manage is booming again, not to mention I could do much better performance-wise by rebuilding/upgrading the one I have for that...

    Help, I need better sounds/voices...

Picked up that E-Mu Proteus 2000 today, and I think I'll pick up a Roland JV-880 and start building a nice little Roland rack unit (I saw a video where the RZA gives the whole line from 1080 to 5080 a cosign). I like the Kurzweils but it'll prolly be a while before I grab one, I think the Korg...
